Project Overview

Project Summary:

Energy harvesting shoes and Walk encouraging application. Energy harvesting shoes use thermoelectric and piezoelectric effects. Walking in energy harvesting shoes can provide health benefits by generating electricity in an eco-friendly way and preventing various diseases. The application consists of health, game, chart, and calculator tabs. Participation in walking exercise can be encouraged through the functions of these tabs.

Identifying the Challenge

The Social Problem:

Currently, Korea uses excessive fossil fuels to produce electrical energy. Accordingly, environmental problems are becoming more serious and threatening our lives. As of last year, 55% of the domestic population was found to not exercise. Moreover, the incidence of the disease is increasing. Walking regularly can reduce the incidence of disease.

Innovation and Uniqueness

Why Our Project Stands Out:

Through energy harvesting, you can produce energy in an environmentally friendly way and at the same time enjoy health benefits. Unlike existing harvesting devices, our invention makes the energy harvesting device wearable so that energy can be harvested during walking exercise. Additionally, the app's functions can encourage voluntary participation in walking exercise.

Insights and Development

Learning Journey:

As a non-majors, we had a hard time coding. we wanted to develop SW by writing the framework and code ourselves. In addition, we searched for numerous papers to accurately and logically calculate the amount of electricity generated. It may have taken several times longer than my major, but it was a very meaningful challenge and I could learn a lot.

Development Process:

Identifying environmental and health issues is the first step. Solutions can involve leveraging expertise and software tools like academic research and mentor guidance, as well as creating applications like Scratch-based ones. Integrating expertise with software means comparing different plans, such as Plan A and Plan B, to find the most effective solution quickly and efficiently.
