Project Overview
Project Summary:
“Shim-bwat-da” (Korean meaning of Eureka) is an integrated platform AI companion for all retired personnel. Through a customized avatar chatbot, the application provides the retiree with solutions and data depending on what they ask for their post-retirement life. Its core functionality is its ability to study the lifestyle of the end-user and provide integrated response and information for personalized situations of the retiree. The application also gives bond and motivation for the active senior to commit to productive activities such as senior education institutes.
Identifying the Challenge
The Social Problem:
We decided to tackle the super-aging society of South Korea, but especially with life after retirement. Life expectancy in Korea is predicted to be highest in the world, but with birth rates hitting its lowest, the senior generation have and will greatly surpass the working population. Therefore, by supporting the older generation this would not only help the physical and psychological benefits, but also help sustain the Korean economic structure.
Innovation and Uniqueness
Why Our Project Stands Out:
Our project stands out because it integrates an AI that is not only a chatbot, but an avatar that can be easily accessed and frequently used by active seniors. Also characterizing them to friendly lets them feel a bond between it. Furthermore, this application brings opportunities to get information of the needs and tendencies of the seniors, which could also help the government create new policies based on the data collected through this application.
Insights and Development
Learning Journey:
Understanding how to properly offer bond and affection to the application, and offering genuine support through the app was a big consideration that we had to make. To solve this, we desk researched competitors in both public and private sectors, and interviewed retirees of what functionality they would most like have included as a feature. We realized that there are cases where usability is an issue, therefore we have put efforts to increase accessibility to the application.
Development Process:
The project was built through designing and prototyping in Figma. Through Figma, we have assembled the application UI and prototype. This could be applied as an ideation of how the application will function when it arrives to the stage of practical development.
