Project Overview
Project Summary:
As the number of companion households increases in modern society, social problems such as animal abandonment and puppy mills arise. Therefore, We thought of a 'good pet shop' operated under the animal production/sales permit system for a better companion culture. Consumers can choose an ethical pet shop that cares about the welfare of animals because this permit system has specific standards for the living space regulations and manpower of animals in the facility. In addition, users can easily solve questions arising while living with their pets through an AI chatbot.
Identifying the Challenge
The Social Problem:
The issue of abandoned animals and puppy mills infringes on animal welfare. Run solely for profit, they treat one life as a means of making money, and they even use esthetics and illegal drugs. It is unethical to ignore the basic rights of life. Also, abandoned animals become wild animals, causing ecosystem disturbances and attacking people. Solving this problem doesn't stop at serving animals, but is linked to human safety.
Innovation and Uniqueness
Why Our Project Stands Out:
Rather than criticizing abandoned sites, we praised sites that care about animal welfare. Since our project is run based on the permit system, it is possible to explain the standards of an "ethical pet shop" and engage people. Additionally, the profit of the dog mills will decrease. AI chatbots have enabled people to quickly access and solve questions that arise during their companion lives with only the information they need.
Insights and Development
Learning Journey:
The main problem was that the protected abandoned animals were not easily exposed to the general public. In the process of solving this problem, we found that there is public data summarizing the current status of protection and an animal production/sales permit system that lets you know whether it is a legitimate pet shop.
Development Process:
We were able to study UI/UX structures that can be intuitive to users by using Figma. We developed the parts in charge of each team member, and when there are some difficulties, we had time to solve them together in chat room. In particular, in the process of thinking about how to be intuitive, a lot of discussions arose.
